K-Tee

Shogun Audio owner and head-honcho, Keir Tyrer - aka K-Tee - has a long & diverse history in the world of drum & bass. His first forays into music production were as part of a hip-hop collective in the early 90s and although many tunes were made, initially no material was released until K-Tee joined forces with long-time friend Stakka. Their first release ‘Ruffneck Ragga’ on south London label ‘Just Dance Recordings’ lead to Ant Miles picking up the next batch of recordings and inviting the two promising producers into the studio to mix their tracks down for label ‘Liftin’ Spirit’ in ‘94. ‘Brockin Out’ and ‘Serious Intention’ set the tone for the next few years, resulting in 9 releases on RAM Records and Liftin’ Spirit - most notably ‘Orange Sunshine’ featuring on the first ever RAM LP, ‘The Speed of Sound’, plus a collaboration, ‘Danger Zone’, with Andy C.

By ’96, K-Tee was releasing almost exclusively on Stakka’s labels Audio Blueprint and Underfire, and it was during this time that K-Tee first linked up with local up-and-comer, Friction. Following the demise of Underfire and Audio Blueprint in 2000, K-Tee continued to work with Stakka, Friction and Nu:Balance under the guise ‘The Militia’. During this period the crew released a number of tracks on various labels, including the seminal 'Electrolux' and 'Paranoia' on Renegade Hardware. As time progressed K-Tee began working ever closer with Friction, who by now was a good friend; their first release ‘Immortal’ on Charge Recordings in 2002 cemented the working relationship and led to a number of releases on labels including Renegade Hardware and CIA.

In natural succession, Friction developed his own label - Shogun Audio - which has since become the main outlet for K-Tee & Friction’s productions, including the massive 2007 dance floor anthem 'Back To Your Roots'.

Scroll forward to the future, and K-Tee and Friction are successful business partners and joint owners of Shogun Audio Ltd Group, incorporating publishing arm 'Temple Publishing.’ The record label has advanced from strength to strength, and with recent releases on labels such as Hospital Records, Metalheadz as well as Shogun Audio, K-Tee is more prolific than ever, and still keeping the Shogun camp in check!
